As we continue our new established tradition to gather once a month lets continue with the same spirit and have a good time together! As this is a great way to meet other artists, painters, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, art lovers, gallery members and friends.

Our new theme for Feb 3rd is: The War Is Over. Late 60s. Hippie, Love and Peace Party.

Come out, dress bohemian sexy style and have fun to early 60s music. Celebrate peace love and togetherness.

We will have a make up artist for free if you like to try something fun for the cameras.

We will also have photo shoots at the gallery (12 foot’ seamless grey paper).

Amateurs and professionals all are welcome: bring your cameras.Come to network, Come to learn, teach and share, promote yourself.

Be a model, be photographer, be both!

If you are a painter, you are welcome to paint live. (Bring your canvas).

You are welcome to bring your portfolios to share with others, show your art.

Live performers are also welcome to come and show off their talents: sing, dance, stand up, perform.

A fun night of Contemporary art and photography. Voitek, Justin and Nico bring to you three unique styles all exploring the powerful energy of expression through art. Voitek brings to you interpretive photography through landscapes, street photography, nudes, abstracts and portraits. Justin brings to you a fresh take on abstract expressionism using a combination of vibrant colours, bold textures and energetic compositions that bring the canvas to life. Nico introduces a unique style of action painting. Action painting, sometimes called “gestural abstraction”, is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied. The resulting work often emphasizes the physical act of painting itself as an essential aspect of the finished work or concern of its artist.

Hang Nail is a mixed media group exhibition of three recent graduates of the Visual Arts program at York University. Anthony Cristina, Alex Curci and Natalie Viecili have very different working methods and aesthetic styles but share the desire to deconstruct, analyze and re-organize visual culture.

Our beloved gallery member Alex St Germain is presenting his first solo exhibit “Running With The Dragon” at Studio 561 Gallery September 20- September 27, 2011

This is a phenomenal person with a huge heart and a great talent.

At the opening we will see his first interview recorded for the show where he explaines his art, and what it does for him and how much it helps him in his everyday life. This is his way to escape the reality at the same time it is the best way to expess himself and talk about reality.

Alex St Germain: “Some of my work is dark, while others can be bright and energetic. The one common factor is movement, perhaps exposing my own restlessness. Jackson Pollock stated that art reveals the artist; I believe this to be true. This being so, my art reveals many aspects of my personality. In the process of creating, it doesn’t always work, as many a canvas has been destroyed, but when one is completed it takes on a life of its own. As I am painting, I talk to the canvas, sometimes even wrestle with it; the creative process is indeed a struggle. Anything worth doing requires hard work, without it, it’s worthless. To this day when I have completed a painting, I still thank my mother and God.”

The exhibit runs from September 20-27,with the opening reception on Saturday September 24, 2011 starting at 7PM
